SALT LAKE CITY — Utah will receive additional resources from the federal government in the fight against COVID-19 after President Donald Trump approved the state's disaster declaration.

State authorities said Tuesday that they would make a "major disaster declaration" to get more resources to the state.

On Saturday, the president declared that "a major disaster exists in the State of Utah." The declaration gives State, tribal, and eligible local governments access to federal funding, as well as certain private nonprofit organizations. The funds are to be used for "emergency protective measure" for all areas in the state impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
