Most of Utah's counties set records this week for new COVID-19 cases

SALT LAKE CITY — On Election Day, the rolling average for daily COVID-19 infections in Utah was 1,726, an alarmingly high number compared to earlier in the pandemic.

Two weeks later, the rolling average is 3,057.

23 of Utah’s 29 counties set records, many of them nearly doubling previous records for the number of cases in our tracking, which we conduct for each seven day period from Tuesday to Monday:

We are beginning to see the lagging indicators of hospitalizations and deaths from our current surge. Recently, the average number of COVID-19 deaths reported each day has been over 8.

As of Tuesday, 512 people in Utah are hospitalized with COVID-19. 196 of those are in intensive care units.
