Today, the lives of 82 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2019 and 21 who died in previous years were remembered by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
The annual tribute was a little different this year due to the pandemic, with Memorial Weekend events postponed and NFFF members not gathering at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
A 45-minute tribute video was shared online, reflecting the wishes of Fire Hero Families, honoring their firefighters, but is not a replacement for the National Memorial.
Organizers assured those families that they will come together in person to reflect and honor their fallen loved ones when it is safe to do so.
