SALT LAKE CITY — One man is dead after a house fire Friday morning.

Salt Lake City firefighters say they got a call about a house fire just after 7:00 a.m. on Logan Avenue.

“Initially the call came in off 700 East, so it was a little harder to locate luckily that was those alert individuals that called in so that was the address nearby they made their hose lines stretch to get a little bit further in very aggressive attack and still very efficient,” said Captain Anthony Burton.

As firefighters were fighting the flames, they say neighbors told them a man lived in the home and was unaccounted for.

“Crews made an aggressive fire attack and knocked that fire down on the porch, made entry and immediately starteda  search as they did that, they did discover one deceased individual in the home,” said Captain Burton.

“It’s pretty frightening to see all the police cars and everything,” said neighbor Janean Parker.

Janean Parker says she knew the man who lived in the home.

“I made it a point just to try and meet everyone on the street when I moved in and I was curious to about the little houses in that alley,” said Parker.

She says the house that caught fire is one of the original farmhouses in the area.

“He was really nice, he was a very sweet man,” said Parker.

It’s something like this, that makes Janean regret not talking to him more often.

She says connecting with neighbors is something she enjoys and something we should all do.

“We should all be more friendly to our neighbors you know, our neighborhoods in our societies are the most important thing in this world,” said Parker.

Fire crews are still investigating the cause of the fire.
