MIDWAY, Utah -- The whole town came out on Sunday to congratulate their new queen.

The town of Midway held a parade for McKardy Kelly, who was just named the 2020 National High School Rodeo Queen.

"It's amazing. I love my community. I love my family and my friends. It's amazing that they were all here supporting me. I was super overwhelmed," she said. "I love them so much, and I just want to thank the community for being here."

Kelly is the first Utahn to win the title since 2008. To win the crown, she competed this weekend in the National High School Rodeo Association Finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Contestants were judged on modeling, horsemanship, apparel, speech, personality as well as impromptu questions, testing and interviews.

Kelly was one of 42 contestants from the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia.

Five others won championships at the event: Macee McAllister, barrel racing; Dalton Van, top shooting; Dallie Bastian, breakaway roping; Clayson Hutchings, saddle bronc; and Kenna Coronado, pole bending and all-around cowgirl.

The girls' team finished in first place while the boys placed second.
