SALT LAKE CITY — Emergency crews responded to a hazmat situation at the University of Utah Tuesday night, and an evacuation order for the building has since been lifted.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to the university's Department of Chemistry around 6 p.m.

A laboratory technician dropped a glass container of boron trichloride diethelyne, which can potentially become airborne and hazardous if mixed with water, said Tony Allred, captain of the department's hazardous materials response team.

The technician was taken to a hospital as a precaution to be evaluated. The building was also evacuated as crews cleaned up the spill.

The evacuation was lifted after the spill was cleaned up.
