SPANISH FORK CANYON, Utah — Search and rescue crews rescued a paraglider who crashed near the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon Tuesday afternoon.

A 57-year-old Provo man was paragliding when he crashed into a steep mountainside near the Escalante Cross area around 4 p.m., according to Sgt. Spencer Cannon of Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

A medical helicopter was able to hoist him from the difficult terrain. He reportedly had serious back pain but never lost consciousness. He was taken to Utah Valley Hospital by Spanish Fork ambulance.

Another paraglider was with him but was not injured.
