OGDEN, Utah — A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a shooting late Saturday night.

Everardo Guadarrama-Garcia, 24, faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon and obstruction of justice.

Officers got a call about a shooting at the 500 block of 31st Street in Ogden just before midnight, according to a press release issued by the Ogden Police Department.

When police arrived at the scene, they noticed a man in his mid-twenties on the sidewalk unconscious and bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound, the press release states.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after the incident, police identified and arrested Garcia-Guadarrama.

A PC statement indicates the man confessed to officers as he was being arrested and told them he had hidden the gun inside of a ceiling. Police found a .45-caliber weapon hidden just as the man described.

The PC statement also indicates Garcia-Guadarrama told officers he had smoked methamphetamine prior to the shooting. Police located drug paraphernalia in the man’s apartment.

Detectives are continuing to investigate and said evidence suggests this was an isolated incident.

Ogden Police are waiting to notify the victim’s family before they release his identity.
