HEBER CITY, Utah — A lockdown at Wasatch High School was lifted after a perceived threat was determined to stem from a Utah Division of Wildlife Resource employee responding to a call about an injured deer.

The school went on lockdown around 11 a.m. as police investigated a nearby threat, according to the Wasatch County School District.

An update from the School District indicated the perceived threat was actually a law enforcement officer “responding to and dispatching an injured deer.”

“The high school, law enforcement, and School district followed lockdown protocol for the safety of all students and staff. All students remained securely in their classrooms while classwork and activity went on as scheduled,” a Facebook post from Wasatch County School District said.

The DWR issued a statement later Thursday which said a DWR employee responded to a routine call about an injured deer in a residential area near the high school.

According to the statement, the employee told Wasatch County dispatch he was responding to the incident but did not tell dispatch he would be outside his vehicle with a gun.
