WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- Police have identified a man who was killed in a rollover crash at 3696 South Redwood Road in West Valley City Sunday.

The West Valley City Police Department has identified the victim as 76-year-old Richard Alan Learned from Sandy.

His SUV was involved in an accident with a passenger car. Police said Learned was partially ejected from his SUV and later died on scene.

The driver of the passenger car suffered a minor head injury, police said he declined medical attention.

As of 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Redwood Road remained closed to all traffic from 3500 South to 3800 South as police investigated.

At this time, police do not know how the accident happened. They have received conflicting information from witnesses which they said has created a challenge.

“We have witnesses that have said that our green SUV was coming from the west to the east across traffic,” said Lieutenant Justin Wyckoff with West Valley City Police.

“We have, both cars were directly going North,” Wyckoff continued as he explained other witness accounts. “The black car tried to switch lanes and collided with our green SUV.”

West Valley City Police said they are reconstructing the accident to determine how it happened. They have located one surveillance camera in the area and have contacted the business owner to see if the crash was captured.
