DRAPER, Utah --  A woman remained in critical condition Saturday night at the University of Utah Hospital after crashing in Draper with her infant child in the back seat.

The head-on crash happened around 3 p.m. in the area of 1750 East Traverse Ridge Lane.

It's a busy road with a posted speed limit of 40 mph.

"When we do get crashes on this road they tend to be more serious," Sgt. Todd Crane with the Draper Police Department said.

While the mother was flown by helicopter in extremely critical condition, investigators say the car seat the baby was in saved its life.

"The infant maybe had some bumps and bruises, but seemed to be okay," Sgt. Crane said.

The baby is at Primary Children's Hospital, but mostly as a precaution.

Investigators say the car the mother was driving drifted into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle head-on.

The man driving that car was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators aren't sure what caused the car the woman was driving to veer across lanes.
