The fridge and freezer are often overlooked when we think about organizing our homes. Yet a little time and a few simple tips could save families a significant amount of money.

Professional organizer Wendy Brown says that the reason we see from 25 percent to 40 percent of our food going to waste, is oftentimes because of either poor planning or lack of organization of the fridge. In both cases, the food fails to get put into a meal or a snack, and goes to waste.

Frozen and refrigerated foods have a shorter shelf life, so it's especially important to have good organizing systems in place to help you use them before you have to toss them.

Tips to organize the fridge and help reduce food waste:
- Easy access
- Making it visual
- Maximizing space
