SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Two suspects wanted for bank robberies in Park City and Wyoming, and the shooting of a driver in Denver have been arrested in Oregon, sheriff’s officials said Sunday.

The Oregon State Police said in a press release Sunday that on Saturday at around 5:30 p.m., officers were called to a Red Robin restaurant in Roseburg, Oregon on a report of an unsuccessful armed carjacking.

Police caught up to one of the carjacking suspects, who fled on foot, the press release said. That suspect was identified as 31-year-old Jose Lopez-Jovel, of El Salvador.  Police said Lopez-Jovel had warrants out of Utah.

Police continued to pursue another suspect, who led them on a high-speed chase where shots were fired, the press release said. Eventually, that suspect, who was identified as Matthew Anthony Fanelli, 30, tried to jack another car, shooting a man and assaulting a woman in the process.

Police located Fanelli in the newly stolen vehicle, the press release said, and were able to arrest him once the vehicle became disabled.

“OSP and partner Oregon law enforcement agencies soon discovered these two suspects were associated with a multi-state crime spree of violent criminal activity,” the press release said.  “The related criminal conduct appears to involve one or more persons of interest, so Oregon law enforcement is working with out-of-state and federal partners.”

In Utah, Sgt. Kacey Bates with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said two men entered the Wells Fargo around 10 a.m. Friday. Surveillance images show one of the suspects pointing a gun at a bank teller.  They got away with an unknown amount of cash.

In a press release, police in Denver said the same suspects were involved in an early morning carjacking on Friday as well.

Investigators in Cheyenne, Wyoming say, about two hours later, the same two men robbed a convenience store and fired a gun twice.

Nobody was hurt in the Cheyenne or Kimball Junction incidents.

Police said a woman was with the two suspects, but her involvement isn’t clear. It was not clear if the woman was one of the three who were arrested in Oregon.
