WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- 15-year-old Marquez Grajeda was killed after suffering a gunshot wound to the head in West Valley City Tuesday, and a 14-year-old is in custody in connection with the death, police said.

Officials with the West Valley City Police Department said the incident occurred near 1500 W. 2300 S. at around 12:45 p.m.

Police said the incident was initially thought to be a drive-by but later learned that it happened inside a residence, where a friend of Grajeda lives.

Multiple people were inside of the home during the incident, police said, including juveniles and adults.

Police said that a search warrant was executed at the home where the shooting occurred, and two firearms were recovered. Police stated they did not know if either weapon was involved in Grajeda's death.

Police said in a tweet Tuesday night that the 14-year-old arrested was booked on charges of criminal homicide.
