SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah – Search and rescue crews located the body of a missing snowmobiler that was buried by an avalanche Friday.
According to a Facebook post by the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, the avalanche occurred in the La Sal Mountains.
Members of the snowmobiler’s party were not able to find him. Saturday afternoon the man’s body was recovered, the sheriff’s office said.
“We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends who are grieving at this time, and express our utmost appreciation for those who work and volunteer so much of their strength and time whenever called upon in times of need,” officials wrote in a Facebook post Saturday.
The San Juan Record, which was cited in the sheriff office’s Facebook post, identified the victim as Scott Pehrson Jr., 39, from Monticello
The Utah Avalanche Center also stated that avalanche danger is considerable in the Moab region, and asks the public to avoid the area due to safety concerns.
