SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City Police are investigating a body found in the snow Wednesday morning.

The body was discovered near the Utah Department of Natural Resources office, near 1500 W North Temple, around 11 a.m.

"When officers arrived, they found a man next to the road here on North Temple. It appears that he’s been here for quite some time, probably since sometime last evening," said Sgt. Brandon Shearer of the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Shearer said the body is that of a black male in his mid-40s.

Thursday, Salt Lake City Police said in a tweet that it was determined the man passed away because of a medical issue.

The deceased man did have notification on him and police also said in the tweet that the man's next of kin have been notified, but they have not released the name of the deceased.

Police are looking at surveillance video from a building nearby to see if that answers any questions as to what happened on this busy road Christmas night.

"If anyone has any information on what might’ve occurred, please call Salt Lake City Police," Shearer said.
