LAYTON, Utah -- A man was hit and killed by a vehicle in Layton Tuesday evening, officials with the Layton Police Department confirmed.

The accident occurred at 1650 N. Hill Field Road, close to the Fox Creek Apartments. Police identified the victim Wednesday as Marcus McGaha.

According to Lt. James Petry with the Layton Police Department, officers received calls at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, saying a person had been hit by a vehicle.

When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that the man was deceased, Petry said.

Petry identified the victim as a 34-year-old man, but his name was not released pending notification of family members.

"It looks like he was crossing the street," Petry said. "This is a fairly heavily traveled road, with heavy traffic and a higher speed limit."

Petry stated there was not a crosswalk in the area where the man was hit.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the man stayed on scene and was cooperating with investigators. There were no indications that the driver was impaired, Petry said.
