MIDVALE, Utah — A Utah Transit Authority spokesman said a woman is lucky to be alive after she was hit by a train in Midvale Wednesday afternoon.

UTA spokesman Carly Arky said the woman was running to the platform at the Bingham Junction stop and did not see the oncoming train. The train struck the woman just as she was crossing the middle of the tracks, Arky said, but she was able to stand back up and seemed to be OK.

Arky said the woman was walking and talking after she was struck and she didn’t want medical care, but she was sent for a checkup anyway.

UTA briefly activated a bus bridge for passengers who were using the TRAX red line between the Fashion Place West and Historic Gardner stops. The bus bridge was canceled as of 4:36 p.m.

“There will be an out-of-service NB TRAX train between Fashion Place West and Millcreek. Expect delays,” a tweet from UTA said.

UTA officials urge members of the public to be aware of their surroundings in order to prevent serious injuries or deaths.
