MURRAY, Utah -- A grandmother and a 7-year-old girl were killed in a fire that broke out in a home in Murray Monday morning.

Crews with Murray Fire and Unified Fire responded to a home in the area of 5700 South and 700 West around 7:30 a.m. Monday and found a home fully engulfed in flame.

A woman and her adult brother were outside the home already, and the woman told firefighters her 7-year-old daughter and the woman's mother were still inside.

Crews worked to fight the fire and enter the home, which was made more complicated by the presence of trees and power lines. A large amount of possessions inside the structure also complicated the response.

"She's lost her mom and her daughter.... It's very unfortunate, it's basically a firefighter's worst nightmare when you have fatalities in a fire," said Battalion Chief Chad Pascua of the Murray City Fire Department.

The identities of the deceased woman and child have not yet been released.

As of around 10:30 a.m., fire crews were still on scene and dousing hot spots ahead of entering the residence to recover the remains of the deceased.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fox 13 News will update this story as more details emerge.
