SALT LAKE CITY — A man was taken to a hospital after an SUV and a TRAX train collided in Salt Lake City Wednesday night.

Utah Transit Authority Police say the crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. at 600 West and North Temple in Salt Lake City as an SUV was traveling eastbound.

The SUV was in the turn lane preparing to make a turn, then the driver went through an active crossing as the train was traveling eastbound and the two vehicle collided.

No one on the train was injured. The driver of the SUV, a 64-year-old man, said he was uninjured but was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.

Lt. Paul Nielsen said the crash is an important reminder and could have been worse.

"Observe the active crossings," he said. "Trains can be coming up the direction you're coming, and you turn in front of them, it can be fatal at times, so he's very lucky that it turned out the way it did."

The crash caused a delay on Green Lines.
