MIDVALE, Utah -- A car chase that ended early Thursday morning in Midvale is connected to a Wednesday night homicide in West Valley City.

Acting on a tip, police were looking for a Scion that may be tied to the suspect in that homicide.

Around 4:30 a.m. officers spotted the vehicle in Cottonwood Heights, and attempted to make a stop, but the driver of the car sped off.

Officers gave chase and the pursuit went through several communities before the car hit a curb near 7300 South State in Midvale, with the impact blowing all four tires.

Officers quickly detained a man and a woman who were in the car, but the driver and suspected shooter in the homicide got away.

“We had a large police presence that was kind of following or monitoring the chase as it was progressing so we were able to lock down this area fairly quickly," Sgt. Sean McCarthy with the West Valley Police Department said. "And with that we had a lot of manpower to quickly search it with a K-9 Units that came out.”

The victim from Wednesday’s homicide has been identified as 26-year-old Victor Manuel Garcia Jr.

According to police, he and a 24-year-old man got in a fight in the back seat of a moving vehicle.

Investigators say Garcia broke a bottle over the other man's head, and that man pulled out a handgun and shot and killed Garcia.

Detectives know who they are looking for, and are confidant they will arrest him soon.

If the suspect has not been located quickly, police will release his name and photographs of him to help them find him.

He is described as a 26-year-old Hispanic male who stands 5-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. Police say he has a "very distinct tattoo" on the left side of his forehead.
