Update: The Unified Police Department (UPD) identified Tammy Colton, 47, of West Valley City as the victim of a fatal auto-pedestrian accident that occurred at 1463 W. 4700 S. in Taylorsville Monday.

“We believe Tammy was on her way home from work trying to cross road from south to north side to catch a bus when she was hit by two vehicles,” UPD said.

Investigators said that darkness was a contributing factor in the accident and that the particular stretch of road makes it “very difficult” for drivers to see pedestrians at night.

Det. Chuck Malm with UPD said Colton was hit by one car, then dragged by another.

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah -- Unified Police said a car hit and killed a woman Monday night, after the woman tried to cross a busy Taylorsville road.

Detective Chuck Malm with Unified Police said around 8 p.m, at least one car and possibly more hit the woman in the eastbound lanes as she crossed 4700 South near 1463 West.

When Unified Fire Authority arrived, he said they pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

He said the woman crossed the street in an area with no crosswalk or lighting, on a dark, hard-to-see stretch of the road where the speed limit is 50 mph.

Everyone involved was cooperating with police, he said.

Accident reconstruction crews arrived at the scene to determine exactly what happened, and the eastbound lanes remained closed to traffic during the investigation.

Detective Malm said they identified the victim as an adult female. However no other information was known at the time.
