PROVO, Utah — After a slow start, the no. 25 ranked BYU football team scored 24 points in the second quarter to beat McNeese State 30-3.

McNeese State controlled the first quarter, but they only managed to score three points.

A blocked field goal by Corbin Kaufusi ignited the Cougars. Lopini Katoa ran for two touchdowns and Tanner Mangum threw a touchdown pass to Talon Shumway in the decisive second quarter.

“It feels good to win and I told the guys to celebrate every win,” said BYU head coach Kalani Sitake. “It’s hard to match the intensity and the emotion of last week’s game. We did what we were supposed to do so we need to celebrate the win and then move on.”

Skyler Southam kicked three field goals for the Cougars, who improve to 3-1 this season.

BYU’s defense was strong, especially on third downs. The Cowboys were 0-for-10 on third down conversions.

BYU will play against the Washington Huskies next Saturday.

During the game, Cosmo the Cougar, whose identity is a closely guarded secret, had his mask fall off.
