LAYTON, Utah — Evacuations for several streets of residents were ordered following a natural gas leak in Layton Tuesday evening.

According to a tweet made by the city of Layton, the gas leak occurred in the northeast portion of the city.

Streets that were affected by the gas leak were near 3300 N. and 2550 E., the city stated.

Don Porter, a spokesperson with Dominion Energy, said that the gas leak was found to be coming out of a storm drain near 2650 E.

16 homes were evacuated near the drain. Covers were put on the drain in an attempt to keep gas from continuing to escape, Porter said.

As of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, crews were working to fix the leak, which they believed they had located.

Porter did not say how long homes would be evacuated but said it would “most likely not take long.”
