SANDY, Utah -- Firefighters battled a large grass fire in Sandy Thursday evening.

It burned near 8700 South and 700 West in the River Bottoms area.

When the fire started around 6:30 p.m., some structures were threatened and some people were forced to evacuate.

But crews were able to get the fire to burn away from the structures.

"It looks like it's dying down right now, but with the winds it could kick back up so we want to make sure we have resources in place in the event that it does," Captain Ryan Lessner with the Sandy Fire Department said.

Crews will be on hand overnight to make sure there are no flare-ups.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
