WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- One woman is dead and a man suffered extremely critical injuries in an early morning motorcycle crash in West Valley City.

Lt. Jeff Conger with West Valley City Police says a passerby came upon the crash around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning near 7400 West and 5400 South and called 911.

When police arrived, a female in her 30s was dead and a male, also in his 30s, was transported to a hospital in extremely critical condition and is not expected to survive his injuries, according to Lt. Conger.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash, but Lt. Conger says it appears speed was a factor.

The victims' names will not be released until their families have been notified.
