Crews battle three-alarm fire near Utah Capitol, 3 firefighters, 2 residents injured

SALT LAKE CITY – Crews battled the “Ensign Peak Fire” near the Utah Capitol Tuesday, where two residents and three firefighters were injured battling the blaze.

According to Audra Sorensen with the Salt Lake City Fire Department, two residents suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to the hospital.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital after suffering from heat exhaustion, and one firefighter suffered a leg injury early on in the fire, Sorensen said.

Salt Lake City Fire officials said that the fire was 90 percent contained at around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Details regarding how the fire began were not known.
