Utah’s 2018 Primary Election results roll in

SALT LAKE CITY — Many Utahns cast their vote Tuesday during Primary Election Day in Utah.

Mitt Romney defeated opponent Mike Kennedy to win the Utah GOP primary race. Romney has 71.71 percent of the vote as of Wednesday morning.

There were two primary races for seats in Congress:

  • In the U.S. Congressional District 3 race, Christopher N. Herrod conceded to John Curtis in the Republican primary. Curtis received 74.35 percent of the vote.
  • Opponents Lee Castillo and Kurt Weiland also faced off, to represent the Democratic Party in the U.S. Congressional District 1 race. Wednesday morning Castillo had 56.52 percent of the vote to Weiland’s 43.48.

Six primaries for State Senate seats took place Tuesday:

  • Democrats Derek Lloyd Kitchen and Jennifer Plumb faced off for Utah’s State Senate District 2. Wednesday Kitchen is in the lead with 52.69 percent of the vote.
  • Republican Jeremy Egan held a lead over Marlin Baer for State Senate District 3. Egan had 58.48 percent of the vote.
  • Republican Brian Zehnder was ahead of Jaren Davis in the race for State Senate District 8, with 61.69 percent of the vote.
  • Scott Sandall held a lead over Clark N. Davis to be a Republican contender for State Senate District 17 with 52.82 percent of the vote.
  • In the race for State Senate District 26, Ronald Winterton was leading Wednesday with 43.37 percent of the vote with Brian Gorum in second at 33.84 percent and Jack Rubin in third at 22.79 percent.
  • Democratic contender Eileen Gallagher had a lead over Pat Vaughn with 62.01 percent of the vote in the State Senate District 26 primary.
