WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Police have arrested a Herriman man on suspicion of stabbing a West Valley City man in the head early Friday morning.

West Valley City Police say the man, later identified as 48-year-old Mandrake Dang, entered the home at 2059 Apple Farms Rd. around 2:30 a.m.

Police say it appears Dang was armed and fired a shot but missed, then began stabbing a man who was asleep in his bed.

The victim was seriously injured but alert enough to speak with officers and provide them with the suspect's information.

Investigators say Dang owns the West Valley home and the victim is a tenant who lives there along with another man.

He was arrested later at his home in Herriman, and officers say the incident is not a random act of violence.

"The public shouldn't be worried at this time," West Valley Police sergeant Anthony Chapman said.  "It does seem that the victim knew the suspect, so that's how we got some suspect information.  We could talk to him while we were giving him medical attention."

Police have been talking to the other man who lives at the home as they try to determine exactly what happened.

Dang will be facing charges of aggravated burglary and attempted homicide.
