19-year-old arrested in Kearns shooting that left 23-year-old critically injured

KEARNS, Utah -- Unified Police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting that occurred in Kearns Tuesday.

Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Ty Wayne McBride of West Valley City.

McBride was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of shooting a 23-year-old man.

The shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in the area of 5900 South Copper City Drive.

That's a block from Thomas W. Bacchus Elementary School.

Police said the victim, Devon Stanfill of Bountiful, picked up McBride in his car and drove down the street.

Investigators aren't sure what happened next, but Stanfill was shot and the shooter fled the area.

Stanfill was in extremely critical condition inside his car when officers arrived.
