MOAB, Utah - Residents are surveying the damage after a fire, called the Cinema Court Fire, that destroyed at least eight homes in Moab.

The blaze forced evacuations and left many without power Tuesday evening.

Along with the homes, the flames claimed two garages and a shop, according to Moab City Police Chief Jim Winder.

Lt. Governor Spencer Cox will be in Moab Wednesday to see the damage and discuss relief efforts with community members and local officials.

Winder said the call initially came in as a brush fire threatening structures, city officials said.

The fire raced along Pack Creek, a heavily-wooded area, burning homes on the south side of the creek's banks.

Several emergency crew members and residents suffered from smoke inhalation.

Multiple agencies including Grand Valley Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Grand County EMS, Moab City Police Department and Grand County Sheriff's Office all responded to the fire.

Power was restored by 8:30 p.m.

Two evacuation centers were set up for those displaced by the fire at the Gravel Pit Lanes bowling alley at 1078 Mill Creek Drive, and the Grand Center at 182 North 500 West.

"Many within the community have contacted us to inquire about making tangible donations, i.e. household items and clothing," the Moab City Police Department wrote. "These offers are incredibly generous and very much appreciated, but at this time they are premature. There will be a time for them and when that time comes, we will provide you with information about what is needed and how to donate it."

Moab City Police asked anyone who had experienced property loss from the fire to report to their office at 25 S. 100 E.

Families or individuals who were displaced from the fire were asked to go to the Moab Fire Department on 45 S. 100 E.

Representatives were to gather at the fire department to assist with short-term needs for residents who were affected by the fire.

"An account has been established to accept monetary donations to benefit those who were impacted by the fire," Moab police wrote. "The account is at Grand County Credit Union -- donations should be made to 'Cinema Court Fire.'"
