WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- A family dispute led to a police response in West Valley City Sunday, but the incident was ultimately resolved without violence or an arrest.

Things began around 3 p.m. when a family dispute broke out near 6400 West and 4200 South at a residence with six people inside.

One family member told the others he was going downstairs to get his guns, but police say he did not make any direct threats in connection with that statement.

The other members of the family were frightened and called police, and authorities responded and set up a perimeter out of an abundance of caution. Police escorted the five family members out of the residence.

Once police made contact with the man, he stated he hadn't made any threats or committed any crimes and didn't want to come out of the home. Police at the scene say they resolved their concerns about a public safety issue and let the man be. Officers cleared the scene around 4:30 p.m.

Police say the man was inebriated and could later be cited for disorderly conduct.
