LAYTON, Utah -- A brush fire that slowed traffic along northbound I-15 near Hill Field Road in Layton Friday night has been extinguished.

Jason Cook of the Layton Fire Department said the fire started just after 7 p.m. and was extinguished in about 10 minutes. The fire burned bushes in an area about 30 feet long.

Cook said the fire broke out in some pfitzer bushes (an evergreen shrub common in landscaping) and he said the bushes have a waxy substance on them, which is what caused the flames to rise so high in the air.

Videos from the scene shot by Ricky Benitez and Parker Hamrick show the flames reaching at least 20 feet high.

There were no injuries reported. The fire affected northbound lanes of I-15 near milepost 331.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
