SOUTH JORDAN, Utah - Police are asking South Jordan residents to be on the lookout after reports of a man trying to abduct an 11-year-old girl.

Police say the alleged attempted abduction was reported near 4900 W. and 10400 S. Wednesday afternoon between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

South Jordan Police tell Fox 13 the 11-year-old girl was walking home from school when she claims the man grabbed her near the overpass in Daybreak.

She told police she scratched and bit the man on his hand and arm before running away.

Investigators say they are hopeful they can retrieve the suspect's DNA from under the girl's fingernails, however, those results will take weeks.

Police say the possible suspect is described as a Caucasian man in his 20s or 30s who was wearing a black hoodie with white drawstrings and dark blue jeans.

South Jordan police are asking anyone with information to call (801) 840-4000.
