WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A pedestrian was injured Friday night after police say a driver suffered a medical emergency, veered out of her lane and struck the pedestrian on a sidewalk.
The crash occurred in the area of 5600 West and Hunter Drive (3300 South), and Fox 13 News first heard report of the crash just before 6 p.m.
Lt. Steve Burke of the West Valley City Police Department said a woman was driving southbound on 5600 West when she suffered a medical emergency and veered into the northbound lanes and then onto a sidewalk, where the vehicle struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian suffered an open ankle fracture.
The car then went back onto southbound 5600 West, and then back onto the sidewalk—where it struck a power pole and then a cement wall.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and did not suffer any serious injuries in connection with the crash.
