HERRIMAN, Utah — The suspect who sparked a SWAT standoff in Herriman is in custody.

Wilford Lincoln Hoglund

Unified Police identified him as 35-year-old Wilford Hoglund.

The SWAT team was called to the Herriman home near 13300 S. 7300 W. after a man was seen breaking out windows with a rifle.

Police said a shed on the property was on fire as well.

Unified Police said the standoff happened at the home of Hoglund's parents.

Fox 13's Dora Scheidell reported hearing "loud booms" at the scene.

She said authorities told her the booms could have been the SWAT team "blowing the doors off the house."

Police asked people in the surrounding area to shelter in place, in a basement, if possible.

The shelter-in-place order has since been lifted.

The Jordan School District reports Butterfield Canyon Elementary was placed on lockout at the request of law enforcement; all of the students are safe.

It has also been lifted.

According to court documents, Hoglund has a lengthy criminal history. In 2004, he was charged with criminal mischief and assault. In 2009, he was charged with driving under the influence. In 2014, he was charged with aggravated assault and criminal mischief for pushing his girlfriend down the stairs, strangling her, and punching her in the face, according to court documents. Then in 2014 he was charged with driving under the influence again. In 2016, he was charged with assault of a health care provider and interference with an arresting officer.

Lt. Brian Lohrke, Unified Police, says charges stemming from Wednesday's standoff are likely.

"He’s being evaluated by medical personnel right now and we’re going to talk to him and find out what led up to this," Lohrke said.
