Massive outage left more than 57,000 without power in Salt Lake Valley

SALT LAKE CITY — Rocky Mountain Power said a massive outage affected thousands of customers in Salt Lake County Monday afternoon.

The company said about 57,000 customers were without power at the height of the outage.

RMP said it lost power to a high-voltage transmission line that feeds multiple substations in the Salt Lake Valley.

Rocky Mountain Power said power restoration will be on a rolling basis.

The Jordan School District said the power outage is affecting numerous schools in the district, however, classes and lunch are continuing as scheduled.

South Davis Metro Fire said the power bump caused several refineries to have larges flares at the stacks.

The outage affected UTA TRAX trains in the area as well.
