BRIGHAM CITY, Utah - Homeowners in Brigham City are cleaning up after an overflowing creek flooded about 10 homes overnight.

Officials said debris forced Box Elder Creek to overflow, which flooded homes and basements early Friday morning. They said rain melting the snowpack also contributed to the excess of water.

"The street looked like a little river," resident Lenore Spencer said. "It was up my leg, maybe a foot."

Thousands of sandbags have been placed, and the city plans on adding hundreds more.

Authorities are monitoring the situation as homeowners assess the damage. Spencer and her husband say a second surge of water nearly caught them off guard overnight, and they are ready for more should the issues continue through the weekend.

"Well I feel good the sandbags are already in place," Spencer said. "I think we are a lot more prepared. I think we were caught without warning [before]."
