SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake Arts Council has reached an agreement with Broadway Media to produce the 2018 Twilight Concert Series.

Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski’s office announced Wednesday that a one-year deal has been reached for Broadway Media to fund a concert series with the Salt Lake Arts Council.

“Twilight is one of the most beloved public arts programs in the City, and I am so happy we were able to find a way to bring it back for 2018,” Mayor Jackie Biskupski said. “This partnership allows the music to go on while we continue to explore ways to strengthen the concert series for future years.”

FOX 13reported last year the plug had been pulled on the 2018 Twilight Concert Series after years of financial problems. Mayor Biskupski had recommended that the event not be funded for 2018 while it was re-tooled for 2019. Many shows were running in the red and the Salt Lake City Council was repeatedly asked to fund emergency loans.

It cost, on average, about $227,000 per show but the Twilight Concert Series landed big name acts for a $10 ticket.

In 2018 the concert series will return to the Gallivan Center, and show dates will be on Thursday evenings during August with some concerts also possible in September, according to a press release. Pricing will remain at $10 a ticket and they expect a weekly attendance of 7,000 patrons.

A selection committee that includes representatives from the Arts Council Foundation will work to curate the concerts, and each night will feature one national act and at least one local act.

“First and foremost, we are big fans of the Twilight Concert Series,” says Kayvon Motiee, president of Broadway Media. “We were saddened to see it was going away and immediately reached out to see if there was anything we could do to preserve it. We are thrilled that we were able to come to an agreement with the Salt Lake Arts Council, the City, and the Gallivan Center to continue with this cherished concert series.”
