BIG COTTONWOOD COUNTY, Utah -- LifeFlight assisted search and rescue crews in Big Cottonwood Canyon Saturday after a woman broke her leg while skiing in the backcountry.

According to the Unified Police Department, a 24-year-old woman was skiing in the backcountry off Powder Park 1, which is between Big Cottonwood Canyon and Park City Ski Resort.

The woman was with a group of people when she suffered the injury around noon. A member of the group went to an area with cell phone service and called 911.

Big Cottonwood Canyon had intermittent closures as LifeFlight landed on the road to transport the woman off the mountain, police said.
