WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A 7-year-old boy was hit by a car in West Valley City Thursday afternoon, according to police.

A representative for WVCPD said it happened near 6000 W 4190 S. The boy, age seven, has been transported to a hospital in serious condition. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say the child was struck as he crossed from south to north. The driver reported they had the sun in their eyes and did not see the child prior to the crash.

Ben Horsely with the Granite School District confirms the boy attends second grade at Hillside Elementary, which is near the scene of the crash. Horsely said the student was struck after school ended for the day.

The school district says they will have counselors on hand Friday to assist any students who may have witnessed the crash or who have concerns.
