OGDEN – Police responded to a large fight Saturday night and found one person seriously injured. They say that individual was rushed to the hospital and soon pronounced dead.

According to Ogden Police officers, the fight occurred between 10 and 11 p.m. at Lester Park near 700 East and 24th Street.

Police say they broke up the large fight and found the injured individual. They rendered aid at the scene and rushed him to the hospital, where he died.

Investigators say they are working to figure out exactly what happened and they intend on interviewing as many of the 30 witnesses involved as possible.

"It's just mixed information right now, and we're trying to get clarity, and we're doing the best we can with the investigation and the investigative leads that we have," said Ogden Police Captain Danielle Croyle.

A witness to the incident spoke with Fox 13 anonymously Sunday in hopes to provide some clarity.

He said it started with a woman leaving a Halloween party across the street from Lester Park. She walked across the street to meet her father who was parked in a car and had some of her personal items.

As she was crossing, the witness said a car suddenly pulled out from behind her father's parked car and almost hit her.

"He shouted out, 'You almost hit my daughter!'" the witness recalled. "They shouted back they hadn't done anything wrong and drove off."

A few minutes later, however, the three people in that car came back to the party on foot with broomsticks as weapons. According to the witness, they attempted to fight the father, but people from the party came out to help him.

Two of the assailants left, but one stayed behind.

"The last one stood his ground and he was taken to the ground because he was being aggressive, still fighting," the witness explained.

He said a small group of people held the man to the ground until police arrived. He said he is not sure if the man died due to his injuries from the fight or from being held to the ground. He just remembers hearing police trying to get the man to respond and seeing his head roll to the side.

Police said the incident was not gang or drug related. The witness said these three are known to the community, however, for their drug activity.

Police are awaiting the notification of next of kin and an autopsy before releasing the victim's name.

The investigation is still ongoing and police are asking anyone with additional information to contact Ogden police at 801-395-8211.
