USA and La Roca 13U Boys played in a great matchup between two of the top teams in the age group, with the USA team starting the season as defending State Cup Champions.
The USA team is full of talented players and has played in major regional and national tournaments this past year including the Mountain Pacific Championships and Surf Cup. The team also features 5 players who were on the 05 TOSH State Select team.
The game was a tight one as neither team dominated. The action was fairly even with both teams feeling like they should have been more clinical with their chances. One of the best moments of the night occurred when a helicopter flew over the field right as a USA shot was taken.
The only goal happened in the first half when a La Roca defender tried an acrobatic clearance and kicked a USA player in the head resulting in an indirect free kick inside the La Roca penalty area. Miguel Arellano stepped up and hit the shot that bounced around before hitting the back of the net.
La Roca pushed hard in the second half and were unlucky not to receive a penalty after some good work in the attacking half. As the game neared the end La Roca came flying forward time after time but were unable to score past Tyler Napier in the USA goal. The game finished 1-0 and USA started their defense with a victory.
