KEARNS, Utah — Police are searching for a child abuse suspect who allegedly punched a 12-year-old boy in the face, breaking the juvenile’s jaw in two places.

According to a statement of probable cause filed Wednesday, the incident occurred September 16 as a 12-year-old boy and his 11-year-old friend were on some railroad tracks near Kearns High School and were throwing rocks down a hill.

Andrew Scott Ross, 26, came out of a nearby home and approached the boys while yelling at them about the rocks. The boys told police they apologized to Ross and tried to explain to him they weren’t throwing rocks at the houses, which is when Ross allegedly punched the 12-year-old in the jaw and then went back inside his home.

The boys left and sought medical attention. The victim’s jaw was broken in two places and had to be wired shut. The victim later identified Ross from a line up.

Ross has been charged with one count of child abuse as a second-degree felony, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Authorities provided a previous booking photo of Ross, which was taken in July of this year. Ross’ previous criminal history includes charges for drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Anyone who knows where the man is should contact police.
