SALT LAKE COUNTY — A teacher at Cottonwood High School is behind bars and facing charges of forcible sexual abuse after he allegedly had sexual contact with a 15-year-old student.

According to a statement of probable cause, Corbin Vance Robinson admitted to police that he had sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl who is a student at Cottonwood High School, where he teaches classes.

Vance was booked into jail Tuesday on two counts of forcible sexual abuse, which is a second-degree felony.

Charging documents allege the man had the student sit on his lap and engaged in various acts of inappropriate touching.

Ben Horsley, a spokesman for the Granite School District, said the alleged victim reported the abuse to school administrators, and at that time Robinson was escorted off school property and arrested. The district also put Robinson on leave.

Robinson taught social studies and was in his first year at Cottonwood High School, and he was hired on to that position after a semester as a student teacher at the same campus. Horsley said school officials ran a background check on the man before he was hired, which came back clear.

Horsley said they are investigating to determine if there may have been more victims.
