SALT LAKE CITY -- Seven Democrats on the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence signed a letter asking President Barack Obama to declassify information about Russian meddling in the U.S. election.

Utah Representative Chris Stewart suspects the Democrats are trying to cast a pall on the November election results.

“I’m just afraid it is more of a political ploy than a sincere effort to inform the American people,” Stewart said.

But much of the response to the Senators’ letter has assumed something else: that the senators are talking about evidence of email hacking and public misinformation.

The Los Angeles Times noted the letter in an editorial, saying the Russian efforts, “…should outrage Americans regardless of whom they supported on Nov. 8.”
