OLNEY, Ill. - A man has been arrested in the death and sexual assault of an 8-year-old Illinois girl who disappeared while waiting for a church bus last week.

Glen Ramey, 53, was arrested for first-degree murder and predatory sexual assault in connection with the death of eight-year-old Sabrina Stauffenberg.

On Nov. 23, Sabrina disappeared while waiting on the porch of her home for a church bus, the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

“She was standing on her front porch, waiting for the church bus. She was on the phone with her grandma at the time,” Denise Haley, who is a friend of Sabrina’s family and resides a few houses away, told BND. “She was telling her grandma that the church bus hadn’t come yet.”

When Sabrina's grandmother hung up to call the church to find out why the bus was late, the eight-year-old girl disappeared, Haley said.

Sabrina's aunt, who was home at the time, suspected the girl had been lured away since she didn't hear any commotion, BND reports.

Search crews later found Sabrina's body near a vinegar plant.

Around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Ramey was taken into custody for first-degree murder and predatory sexual assault.

Haley told BND that Ramey had been dating one of Sabrina's relatives.

He is currently being held at Richland County Jail.
