Thousands head downtown as Christmas decorations light up Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY -- Downtown Salt Lake City was filled with a magical atmosphere Friday evening, where hundreds of thousands of lights came on for the first time for the holidays.

Thousands of people filled Temple Square and the ice skating rink at the Gallivan Center to celebrate their Thanksgiving weekend by kicking off the Christmas season.

Temple Square will turn on its lights each night through the holiday season.
