UTAH -- Several Utah shelters are among those offering free pet adoptions from Black Friday to Cyber Monday during the Home for the Pawlidayz adoption event.

Best Friends Animal Society is among those teaming up with Zappos to help pets find homes this holiday season.  Zappos is pledging up to $1.25 million to cover adoption fees at more than 100 shelters nationwide.

The event runs from November 25-28, and in Utah there are participating shelters in Salt Lake City, Murray, Grantsville, Logan and Kanab. Click here and enter your zip code to find the location nearest you.

The Humane Society of Utah is among the shelters taking part in the effort to find these animals a home.

“Our goal is to clear our kennels and cages,” stated Jamie Usry, HSU director of development. “We’re grateful to Best Friends for the opportunity to participate in this event and hope that we find loving homes for all of our pets.”

On average there are 9,000 pets euthanized across the United States each day, according to HSU. The goal of this campaign is to save 9,000 lives via adoption during the busiest shopping time of the year.

Usry said things were off to a good start Friday, as by the afternoon their shelter had processed more than 100 adoptions.

"We are anticipating, potentially, emptying our cages and kennels by Monday," Usry said. "That would mean we have completely cleared our shelter of all adoptable pets, which would be a first for us and an amazing opportunity. "

Best Friends co-founder Gregory Castle stated in a press release the promotion is part of their larger efforts year-round.

“We’re excited to be a part of this wonderful holiday promotion for the second year in a row,” Castle stated. “Every animal that finds a permanent loving home helps us to get one step closer to Save Them All.”
