SANDY, Utah – A teen walks away unharmed after falling asleep at the wheel in Sandy.
The Utah Highway Patrol said the 18-year-old was driving on I-15 near 9400 S. when he got drowsy and veered off the road just after midnight.
Troopers said the driver was ejected from the vehicle even though he was wearing his seat belt.
However, officers said the seat belt failed either from the age of the car or being worn.
According to UHP, the car went east of the freeway onto Monroe St. where the driver hit a power pole.
At this time, troopers said they do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved.
